Oyster Point Central Business District Strategic Plan

The Oyster Point Central Business District strategic plan is an expansion of the original 52-acre city center at Oyster Point in Newport News, Virginia. The 800-acre district is strategically located in the center of the Virginia Peninsula. For this project, H&A was challenged to improve transportation routes and commercial property, establish re-zoning, and connect the architecture between city center and the surrounding neighborhoods to provide a more aesthetic and lucrative economic market.

This project included extensive work with community workshops and visioning, and focus groups. Using Smart Growth principles, the firm demonstrated effective mixed-use design involving high density, compact development, and pedestrian-oriented design. This project is in the process of obtaining LEED certification.
