Nolde Bakery Condominiums

The Nolde Bread Company has been a historical fixture in Richmond for many years. Despite early years of failed construction, and subsequential neglect, the plant was forced to close in 1977.

For the 100,000 SF project, the firm used ramps and flowing stairs to facilitate continuity throughout the three-story building. Original glazing, terracotta bricks, oversized windows, and salvaged metal fire doors revisit the plant’s legacy. The 77 units feature elegant fixtures and finishes, working in contrast with the building’s steel columns and exposed mechanical systems.
